I have the magneto now in hand for my H and it is time to put it on. I am thinking to put #1 at TDC, stick the mag on there and then run #1 wire from the hole on the distributor cap that the rotor button is pointing at then to the proper cylinders in the firing order--then minor tweeks by rotating mag. And, I am thinking that looking at the mag from the rear it rotates clockwise??

Am I thinking anywhere close to correct?

Ensure #1 is at TDC.
Install the mag and rotate towards block. Slowly turn the mag away from the block until it trips.
Timming will be set.

Yes TOM it does rotate clockwise when you are looking from the rear. I would take all the plugs out makes it easier for you to turn opver with the crank to check it out after installing.

If you are just installing the mag, it wont go in but 2 ways. just line up the mark on the crank pulley to the the pointer, rotate the mag until the rotor is pointing to the one on the cap and put it on.

It has to be on TDC compression stroke not TDC exhaust stroke.
