My neighbor is having some issues with his Hydro 1066. Thankfully it is sitting in the shed right now. We have been having problems for a while with the steering being real hard on it. It was parked in the shed and now the steering doesn't work, no power to the brakes or clutch and the tractor won't move at all. We have power to the 3-point, haven't checked the remotes yet. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. I got a feeling we lost the main hydraulic pump and if this is the cause how much will be required to replace it. Thanks

First order of business is to check/replace that filter and make sure the oil level/quality is up to par. I.E. Not full of moisture. Then, go from there.

If the filter should plug (usually/always seems to happen in the wintertime) it stops the whole she-bang and a squaling noise at the power steering is where you'll notice it first.

Allan I will check that first when I go to the farm this afternoon. I'm sitting in class right now so I can't do much of anything. HAHA I know for a fact the oil hasn't been changed in a LONG time. He is an old dairy farm who now does rowcrops and beef cattle. I hope we can figure out whats up with this tractor since its my favorite down there, don't get me wrong the 1086 and Turbo 986 are nice but there is just something about a Hydro. Sorry I misspelled your name in my earlier post too. Thanks

Allan, got a question cause I was thinking about it. As noted in first post we have 3-point hitch lift up and down. The question is what functions are driven off which pump on these tractors.

Adam,

Your talking two tales at once. Is it a Hydro or not?

Can't have a clutch if it's a hydro.

A 1066 Hydro has three hydraulic pumps. The rear one is the same as the gear drive tractors. The front ones are piggybacked on the MCV which is on the right side of the hydro housing. The larger pump provides oil for steering, brakes, seat, cooling and lube. There is also a 4.5 GPM pump that is the charge pump for the hydro unit.

I've never been into a Hydro so I'm green as grass. The power steering has been weak for awhile on the tractor, at an idle you had to real but some effort into it, almost like it had no power steering but once you increased rpm's it seemed like the pump would come to life and it would steer better, but not like it should. This entire time the Hydro never seemed weak nor the brakes.
