Been working on this H tranny and am about ready to button her up, soaked the cover gasket with water, fit great, let it sit overnite and it shrunk back and tore out the holes LOL! Looks like gasket maker here I come.

Anyway, do I try and find dot head bolts for the tranny cover or "fake" my own, or does it really matter that much. Do you get the dot head bolts still from CaseIH?
Don't know what I will do with this H after I am done, probably put it up for sale to fund the 1950 H next.

If your trying to make an authentic, original just rolled out the factory tractor you should use dot heads for shows but if your just going to use it for a work tractor, I would go with the new ones. Over the years the water soaked in and alot of the bolts from the deck cover were pitted and a lot of the dots got rubbed off from the operators feet. Up to you.

The car guys staarted the correct bolt bit. I did a few 80k chevs and vettes and tbirds, The market got to the poit where bolt heds were a factor. And then we had to get a lot of them cad plated, But for a 100 point H, difference in bolts might be 5 dollars. Put new, fresh, bulletproof bolts in and forget it. My dealer has a huge bolt rack on the showroon floor where I buy em by the pound in plastic bags! I have a bucket full of dot heads i've been tossing them in for years, rusted, junk, will sell it for five bucks.

Randy, I am much more concerned with the structural integrity of a bolt than I am with original appearance. I would much rather look at a brand new hex head bolt with the grade 5 marking on it and know that it will hold than look at an original dot head bolt and wonder if it is so rusted and corroded that it might fail the next time the tractor is used. Only the most persnickety of the correct police will ever know the difference or even care.

oem was selling the dot head bolts. give em a call and see if they can still get em.

You can't get the dot head bolts anywhere as far as I know. That's why they're a HOT item on Ebay in good condition.

It's easy enough to fake dot head bolts with a lathe

I used stainless bolts & lock washers on the transmission cover on my H. I think the whole deal cost less than 15 bucks at Fastnell. My not be politically correct, but they will be good for a thousand years. :-)
