I recently aquired a Farmall B and plan on restoring it, I was just wondering if a more knowledgable person could tell me what the F.A.B means, its stamped between the model and serial number on that little plate we all know. Thanks a bunch.

It is just the prefix IH used for B's.

It doesn't really mean anything except that the serial number that comes after it is for a Farmall B.

F for Farmall (Intertantionals got an I), B for Model B.

Now about that A. I know A Models were FAA or IAA (Farmall or International) and AVS were FAAV and all but the eariest BNs were FABN. About all I have been able to come up with is that all those tractors' serial numbers came out of the same pot/sequence. Thus FA is the serial number sequence, and the last letter(s) of the prefix indicate the actual model.

A=AG (Agricultural Tractor)

Sounds as good as my idea, but I thought the first letter, F or I, was the distinction between the Farmalls (ag) and International (industrial). The Hs and Ms (and the corresponding W had B as the second letter, though they didn't share the same sequence of serial numbers like the various As and Bs.
