I am going to be finishing up the restoreation on my really low serial number M (#529)this spring and am trying to decide if I should keep the wide front. I have a really nice steal tube one with the tie rods out front. I like the looks and the way it drives with the wide front but trying to get most everything else correct to the tractor. If leave the front Id also add fenders and the glass air cleaner. If this were your tractor how would you set it up? I also have a 39 H with the same style wide front I thought Id make into a matching pair....thanks Paul

Personally I would keep the tractor stock, but you could put on your other front end and keep the one that is on it just to keep with the tractor in case you ever want it to be matching numbers.

Do with it as you wish. Now if you know of some of the history of the machine then some abnormalities of the machine give it character and some history thus I wouldn't change them. Like my dad's 51 M. If I ever restore that machine it will never have fenders on it, because they were a PITA to mount and remount when you wanted to put the cultivator on the machine so once they came off they never went back on. It will also keep the older style clamp stle hubs and wheels vs the original 3 bolt hubs. Why??? Because there is a story about how and why that unit got there LOL.

Paul,
I like the bell's and whistle's, yes to the wide front, fenders, and accessory's. I see you have 1939's, M, H, F-20 more? Gotta love your serial # I have said that before.
I too love 1939's I have two 1939 H's 1939 F-20 w/ elec. start, fenders, lights, O/D, etc. and a 1939 Buick coupe. I try to put all the accessorys I can find on them. They made so many M, H, F-20's it helps them to stand out being dressed up.
39 and holden anything 39

If it was mine, I'd use the wide front end with the rods out front.

Andy.

Don't mean to sidetrack your thread, but I just looked at M #530 yesterday, so hearing about yours is quite a coincidence. Does yours have the serial plate on the bell housing? #530 does not and never did.

Leaving them on is just fine. It is cosmetic, common practice and is just the thing owners do to tractors. You aren't putting a 60s SAAB 3 cylinder 2 stroke in it. JimN
