this site is so helpful, listen , learn, & never give up. i checked clutch pedal free play, and it was about 3" THE REPAIR MANUAL SAYS IT SHOULD BE 1 TO 1 1/8 " SO I ADJUSTED THE YOKE TO LENGTHEN THE CLUCTH ROD, WICH ALLOWED ME TO GET CLOSE TO 1'' however im out of adjustment , without going to a longer clutch rod. the tractor seems to shift and respond good, i have not tryed running the tractor yet, i just roll it a few feet forward and backwards. did the new type clutch disc cause this to need such adjustment. the old style disc was a solid type the new replacement disc has like 6 pads i think metalic in nature going around the disc, Ih DEALER SAYS THATS WHAT REPLACES OLD STYLE DISC. also when i installed disc, there is only 1 way to put it on right , cause if you try put it on backwards, it will hit the flywheel, i was carefuland took my time with this issue. i hope all is well, sure would have to split her!!! thanks Jim Gordon-- very cold today in minnesota!

Very cool reality.
I believe there will be changes in sizes from the original "organic" disk. My experience is that with some wear in linkage, and some very new different parts, that the adjustment will be at its limit (as yours is). The good part is that shorter is the direction of the wear. JimN

Actually, whenit wears and needs adjustment, the rod will need to be adjusted shorter, so you should be okay. The thicker disc caused the fingers to pivot in farther, resulting in havint to lenghten the rod adjustment.

I always get that backwards in my head and don't get straightened around until I get on my back with a wrench. 8^(

I'm glad you're making progress!

The separate pads should not make any difference . The critical dimension in the problem you've been having is the thickness of the disc.

Still, you're running out of adjustment room, which suggests the fingers on the cover may have benefitted from some adjustment while you had it apart.

If it were mine, I'd try it out with all the precautions somebody mentioned last night (like having it pinted in a safe direction, ignition disabled and ready to shut it off it it should keep running -- all ggod advice and very important!) and try hitting the starter with the clutch pedal depressed. If she doesn't move, let off the starter, let up on the clutch pedal and hit the starter again. If she moves then, you're halfway home. If she stays put with the clutch out, and moves with the clutch in, hook your ignition back up and take her for a spin. Safe clearance in front and being ready to shut her down quick are still at the top of your list here -- there's still some oddball things that could be wrong. Just drive her and if she acts normally (no unusual noises, clutch engages and disengages like it should) you should be good to go.

You're at the limit of your adjustment right now but, if it works okay where it is, you should be alright until you've worn the clutch to where it needs further adjustment, at which point you may need to split again and look into the possibilty of adjusting the fingers or some other problem.
