Does ANYBODY have a book, magazine, listing or can direct me to a web page that can give me some truthful and honest information on the CC of the assorted H cyl. heads that IH made by part or serial number ? Okey,...You can stop laughing now . :)

If I have to....I will order an economy CC checker kit from ''Behrents Performance Warehouse. They have them for less then 50 bucks and just check some I have myself. Just thought.... I would ask here first before I spend more $!.

I KNOW I'm wishing for the moon here but, you never know 'til you ask do you?

Wish I had a Propane Head!!! * HINT, HINT *

Thanks for your time in advance.

You are wanting to check the head volume to calculate the compression ratio. I've seen it done using the lexan with a small hole in the middle. Use a light oil to fill it. Just get a large hypodermic syringe that holds about 50cc or so. You don't need the needle. You can find them at the farm supply in the animal health area. You can't beat the syringe for accuracy. Keep track as you put it in. Double check as you remove the oil.

A big syringe is handy for a few things such as sucking up an small oil spill in a tight space, using it as an oiler, etc.

Don"t need anything fancy to measure it. Just need a sheet of lexan larger than the combustion chamber, a beaker with CC marks, and some plain ole grease. Put a small hole in the center of the lexan just large enough to pour the water in. Put a bit a grease around the chamber and smash the lexan down tight. Start with the beaker filled to a known level. Pour in the water until full. Then subtract the water gone. Done.

I came up with 118 cc for the volume of the chamber on a later gas head and 170 cc for the kerosene head.

Where I grew up, CC was Cubic Centimeters and was how rice rocket motorcycles were measured.

Anything to do with a red blooded IH tractor or muscle car would have been in Cubic inch displacement. CI or CID.

But then I am a proud redneck from Missourah.

Yes, but burets have always been metric because of more accurate measurments. That is a "laboratory" procedure -- nearly all lab procedures use the metric system because they typically deal in very small quantities. 170 cc is 0.36 pint, kind of hard to measure out of a 1 pint container. Redneck lab technicians have to the metrics, also.

Thanks for Any and ALL for the info so far,

BUT..... .,

GeneMo,
Being as your from ''Missourah''....''The Show-Me State'',...let me ''Show '' you something...!

Any overhead valve cylinder head ,be it a IH tractor, Automotive, Truck, Volkswagen Flat 4 ,Harley Davidson and nameless Jap import junk all use CC to measure the combustion chamber volumes of the combustion chamber of the head. One of the ways of checking this is to use a ''BURETTE KIT AND STAND''. By use of a liquid with a dye in it ...this will let the engine builder know in VERY SMALL increments ...the CC of the compression chamber of the head they are working on . Very useful info to figure compression ratio, checking CC before and after polishing or other work has been done to the combustion chamber , the use of different thickness of head gasket....I could go on. CC is the chosen measurement in checking intake and exaust valve flow at different valve opening heights, port size and much more using a gas on a flow bench.

So, from 1 ''Redneck'' to Another...in this case,.... ...CI or CID MEANS NOTHING ! Thanks anyway.

Call me an idiot, but are you talking about a compression gauge or a burret-stand type gauge for measuring the "volume of the combustion chamber "CC's"? Jegs and Summit Racing have both.

I won't call anybody a idiot....I'm still learning!

And I should have wrote ''Burette Kit''. Thank you for asking.
