Farmall H Clutch Rattle

I have a Farmall H. When I got the tractor the clutch would not engage. I replaced the Clutch Release Sleeve Carrier. Now the clutch seems to work, but when you engage the clutch there is a bad rattle noise and you can see the clutch linkage viberating. When you disengage the clutch the rattle and viberation stops. Has anyone seen or know of what to check that may be causing this problem?

Some times because of lack of lubrication the pipe part of the support will wear out allowing the through out bearing to flop around. Grab a hold of the grease pipe and wiggle it front to back that will tell the bad component. When that fitting is greased it lubes the slide, there is a small hole in the bearing race to allow a small amount of lubricant into the bearing.

I have the same problem with my H. Can any of you guys send a picture of just where/how to check for wear or what to grease? I"ve had guys tell me when they hear my tractor make that sound that it"s the throw-out bearing. I sure hope I don"t have to split the tractor. Clutch works fine, otherwise.

Just a thought: did you check the throwout bearing when you changed the other parts? If the bearing was worn, it will cause a heck of a rattle when engaged.

I had one that when rotated by hand, you could feel it catch as it went around, and it had a little 'slop' when wiggled. Changed the bearing, smooth and quiet.

Just a thought.

A bad throw out bearing will cause that problem. There are a few other things also that can cause that like a pilot bearing being bad or missing, a pressure plate that is adjusted so the arms do not hit the same all the way around if it has those adjustments. A bent transmission input shaft and probably a few others
