Farmall C Gas tank leak

I have a 1951 Farmall C. I recently restored and repainted the tractor. The other day I noticed gas leaking and started looking under the tank and it appears the gas is leaking from under one of the plates spot welded to the tank that is the support that bolts to the hydrualic pump. Looking inside the tank I thinks one of the spot welds has either broken loose of rusted. Is there anyway to fix this problem since it is under the plate or inside the tank. The tank otherwise is in great shape. Thanks for your help.

I had the same problem with my C several years ago. I installed a sealer in the tank and it has not leaked since. I believe I got the sealer kit from Eastwood which is a supplier of automotive painting supplies. Sealer kit is not cheap. I think everything to do the job cost around $60 and that was 6 years ago I think. In addition to the sealer kit, I had to get muratic acid and acetone from Lowe's. These are not part of the kit. If you want the sealer to work, you have to follow the directions exactly and that includes washing the tank with detergent, and then using the kit cleaners and the muratic acid to etch the inside. The Acetone is to dry all the water out before you install the sealer. You may want to investigate a radiator shop or a shop that works on motorcycles. Some of these folks will boil out gas tanks and install sealers. I'm told this is a common problem with older motorcycles.

Yes. I've used gas tank epoxy around those mounting plates with some success. But the better way is to get some sealer that coats the inside of the tank. Kreem is one brand. There are others.
