replacing brake band on tractor do i have to remove axel? thanks JIM, i HAVE REPAIR BOOK ON ORDER THAT WILL HELP ALSO.

You have to remove the final drive. You do not have to remove the axle from the final drive. Remove the rim from the hub and then the hub from the axle. Also I believe you will need to remove the fender. Also, brake connections have to be removed. Once all is clear, you can unbolt the final drive and it will slide right off, bringing the pinion shaft and the brake drum and band with it. I suggest doing one side at a time. Be very careful, as these offset tractors can be unstable when rear wheels are removed and are prone to fall off whatever supports you use. Make certain everything is well supported. Cub parts are not that heavy, but a shop crane or a helper would be of great benefit.

You have to remove the final drive. be sure to support it well, and block the front axle to reduce tipping.
