Due to homework and school, I haven't done as much as I would have liked so far, but I can't change that.

Got the head off and the head gasket didn't look too bad at all. No blown out places and it showed no signs of leakage around it. I filled the block back up with antifreeze, drained the oil and now I have had the crankcase drain plug open for 2 days and I have gotten A FEW antifreeze drops along with remenants of oil. (I haven't had time to pull the pan yet, that is next though)

Am I in the market for a new block yet? Would stop leak possibly fill this suspected block crack? What should I look for with the pan off? Any suggestions on what I do next?

Thanks again

HAD WATER IN THE OIL PAN ON 1939 M AND IT WAS A RUSTED OUT FREEZE PLUG ON THE FRONT OF THE BLOCK BEHIND THE FRONT PLATE. THERE ARE ALSO TWO FREEZE PLUGS ON THE BACK OF THE BLOCK.

I'm going out now to pull the oil pan, so you'll hear back soon.

Thanks

You may have a hole in one of your sleeves. You should've pulled the pan and looked for any antifreeze drops on the sleeves. Losing the rust inhibitor in the antifreeze may have cause that if
you find a sleeve wet. I would have that head magn-fluxed for a crack if there's no leakage from the sleeves. I had this problem on a GM car. Hal

Might be a cylinder sleeve seal ?

An M has dry sleeves. There are no seals. I'd put my money on a cracked cylinder wall, but I hope not. You need to drop the pan, and then shine a bright light up into the cavity and see where the drips are coming from. A cracked cylinder wall is not the end of the world. It can be fixed.

Is there any possibilty that a cracked head could cause this problem, also? I have been told a cracked head is common on an H, is it also common on an M and could cause this? I am asking for my own education on this.
Jim

Yes, but in this case the head is off the block is filled with no head on it checking for block leaks. Because there is no added pressure, the leak might be slower in showing itself. But it will usually show up. It eliminates the head from being considered. JimN

OK, I thought he had antifreeze in oil before he pulled head and now just a few drops like it could be still be draining rest of it out. Thanks Jim
