OP's tractor is a GAS 350. He was wondering about using the engine from an M diesel. It won't work without major modifications to the tractor because the M engine won't fit between the frame rails. If you ever get a look at a 460 (direct descendant of your 350), you'll see that the frame rails flare out to go around the big 6-cylinder engine.

An engine out of an H, Super H, 300, or 350 will bolt right in. However, unless you've got major engine damage, such as a rod through the side of the block, or a crank that is too worn to be ground, or cracks between the cylinders, rebuild the original engine. You'll have a known quantity that will last you as long as you own the tractor.

The Continental(?) diesel that went into the 350 is fairly rare and parts are hard to get. Finding one that's out of a tractor that you would want to use will be even harder.

Using parts from your old engine (flywheel clutch etc..) you can put an engine in from an H, Super H and 300 fairly easily.

It would probably be easier to put a 6 cylinder engine from a 460 into a 350 than a 4 cylinder from an M.

Probably not. 350s descended from the H not the M. Therefore, they have different frame sizes.
