can anyone help me with what is the correct depth from where pressure plate mounts to face of flywheel (so when I resurface it I get it correct) would like to know this for an H and an M also can a pressure plate be resurfaced slightly I have a machine shop with a large belt sander that says it can easily be done for me I want to know if it will affect operation or can pressure plate be adjusted.

Yes you can resurface the pressure plate. First you have to take it apart on a pressure plate adjusting table at an IH or other imp. shop. Get the plate refaced and when it gets put back together the throwout bearing fingers have to be adjusted so that at a certain finger height the mounting plate is at a certain distance from the table and equal all the way around. Simple to do, but it has to be done right. RichH

Just got mine back yesterday. The machinist called it a "two-step job", for the precise reason of having the pressure plate remain the same distance from the flywheel face.

Truth be told, I wouldn't have thought of that.

Let the machinist know that the flange needs to be reduced in thickness to match the material removed from the friction surface. Let it also be known thatyou do not know if others did it correctly, and it needs to be at the correct depth. (it would be their task to spec it). Have them tell you the specification before they do any machine work. I would not face a clutch pressure plate. if enough is taken off to do good smoothing, it will reduce the net pressure. You do not want to remove material from the housing of the PP. Light hand sanding is cool using non directional strokes, and just a touch up of glaze. JimN

When I rebuilt my M I had the flywheel and pressure plate resurfaced. I did not worry about what the depth measurement was, and the clutch works just fine.
