While driving around today I spotted a couple tractors. One I can tell is an 806 but the other has a newer grill than the cast bar of an 806. What size would this be as it was a propane burner. Not up on my IH models with propane and didn't want to get caught trespassing on an abandoned place. Did the 06 and 56 grills look the same and maybe was a 656 since the model emblem didn't look like it started with a 7. thanks chris

Matthies, Chances are it is a 756 LP! or maybe a 656LP! There is some debate on if IH made an 856 LP. Records show that it was possible, but none have shown up that I and others who look, are aware of. Most of us here on the boards have been here long enough that if one had surfaces somewhere it would have bee seen by now.
I will bet you are looking at that 806 lp and a 756lp, the 756 are a good lookin Beefy tractor, if from the road, your vantage point, the other tractor is a little more refined, then it might be a 656, just going by looks, if you can go look at the plates on the clutch housing that will tell for sure.
I know of a fellow who use to farm down here in my end of the world who had 2 756 lps one with the regular standard tranny and one Hydro. When he quit farming, he sold the Hydro and kept the other. He kept the wrong one!!!!!Hope this helps.
later,
John A.

There used to be, and probably still is, an 856lp about twenty miles west of my place, and I believe a friend of mine in central IA just bought one.

Unforgiven, Would like to see one, next time you are back that way take a few pic, then post please. If it is a 856 LP it will be more rare than a SMVDTA! Chances are there are less than 40 ever built. I just don't think there are many at all if any! look forward to your pics in the future. Later,
John A.
