What are #51 plows bringing these days? I'm trying to work a deal on a very nice complete 16" #51, older restoration, no welds, good coulter, moldboard, share and landslide. Steel wheels are excellent and has an enclosed lift. Sandblasted and repainted, looks great. I know they are getting more and more expensive, but what is the top dollar someone could go and not look like a fool?

Sgt Bull,

I looked for a real good IH plow for a couple years. Found a good one in Dec, 2006, a 2-16" #8 Little Genius. It was in great shape, and I had to pay $375.00 for it. All the way home I thought that I paid far too much for it. Now that I have plowed with it several times I find that it was one of the best purchases I"ve made. At the IH National auction near Milwaukee last fall, I saw a very nice 3 bottom #8 sell for about $500.00...and I now think it was worth that. All that pleasure of plowing with it will make someone very happy. And...you can sell these plows later for at least the same money you paid after having all that fun!

For what it's worth, I had a #51 JD plow back a few years ago and sold it. I think I got $100 for it. It needed a good bit of work, it was not restored by any stretch of the imagination.

To get the good out of a green plow it needs to be hooked up to red tractor.
