I recently purchesed an International 130 but the serial number plate looks like it was sandblasted and I can't make out any of the numbers. The engine number is C123 58727 which is suposedly after the last engine produced for the 130. The block casting number is 366204 R1. The tractor also does not have a foot operated accelerator which I thought all 130's had. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

Mike

Front axle is round. The hood has the International 130 emblems but with holes above the International emblem as if it was for the McCormick emblem What other casting numbers would help?

Mike: At this point the casting date codes will help more than anything else. Paul has pretty well explained those, the digit are about 1/2" high and have what looks like a round head, blade type screw, cast between each of day, month and year. If you check those date codes on each of engine block, torque tube, transmission-rear end case, hydraulic touch control unit, and they are all within 6 months of each other, you can be pretty well assured you have an original tractor. You may well find date codes on the smaller castings like front wheels, the cast rear wheel, final drives, steering box, PTO back cover, etc.

My Super A has the date codes on every casting on the tractor. My 130 and 140 have them on those 4 main castings and a few of the others but not all.

Right now, I'm calling your tractor a 1958 Farmall 130, and someone has either changed the hood or changed the decals on the hood. A band with the word McCormick about 5/8" high and 8" long should be there whether Farmall or International.

Another item you might try is using a cleaner like Comet or SOS rub the serial tag, you may just highlight the stamped numbers enough to read them. A lot of 130, 230, 330, 350 and 450 are tags are hard to read, they were that way from new. IH must have had a guy with a tack hammer stamp those tags. I've looked at a lot of tractors in the last few years and the tags on letter and super letter series Farmalls are in much better shape than 00, 30-50 or 40-60 series tractors and 30-50 are the poorest.

Just checked date codes, almost all end in D which would make it a 1958. Right? My next question is what were the differences between the Farmall and the International versions and what years were they both made?

Mike: Both made the same years 56, 57 and 58, they share a common sequence of serial numbers.

Differences are the main hood side decal FARMALL or INTERNATIONAL and the International has a foot throttle and the heavy duty square axle. The square axle was also an option on the Farmall. Also all high clears with 36" rear and 19" front tires I've seen had the square axle, I'm not certain but the square axle could be standard in that case.

Recently read in a book today that you could have ordered an Internatiional hood with emblems for those who did not like the Farmall hood.

Mike: Folks must have been pickey 50 years ago. It wouldn't be a hard switch as the hoods are exactly the same. All that separate them are the words FARMALL or INTERNATIONAL. I imagine both decals were designed to fit same holes in the hood. Very likely the word INTERNATIONAL being longer, probably it require a couple more holes to be drilled.

Jim, the part number on the wheel (#6 787 DE) does in fact correspond with factory 130's. You'll find they are listed on page 116, in the Farmall 130 parts manual TC-52A. In fact, several wheels are available for the 130. Could be an option.
Would like to see the part number on an A and B...maybe they have these wheels also as you specified. thx Paul

Paul: It has been long known part numbers ending in "DE" belong to the Farmall A and B era. Yes, I agree most of those parts will fit on later offsets, for instance that wheel, axle and bearing are the same size thus there is nothing to stop one from installing #6787 DE wheels on a Farmall 130.

Historically I'm betting IH never put a set of those wheels on a Super A after 1952, or any of 100 and 130, at least not at the factory. There were enough farmers across North America having had experience with 6787 DE wheels, anything would be an improvement.

No, I wasn't making fun of your 130 #6787 DE front wheels. I must say I was having a bit of a chuckle about your SA1 assembly line, especially that serial tag installed with soft steel rivits.

Hey, are you making fun of my wheels :) ? They are in fact origional.

Anyway, why would the 130 block number you and Mike mention not appear in the parts book, not even in the index of all origional part numbers in the back of the book?
I realize you say its replacement numbers, but thats just dosnt seem to add up to me?? I also could very well be wrong, but there is not even a mention of a cross reference to 366204 R1. When I get a moment, I'll check out my block casting number and let you know what I find.

By the way, I realize you are well up to speed on date codes, but was not sure about Mike. thx Paul

Your 130 front wheels are NOT CORRECT!! The 130's all used the 3 loops and not the clmap style from an A or B.

Hi Mike and Hugh, I checked my TC-52A Farmall 100 and 130 series Tractors parts (dated 4-15-57) book and do not find the engine part number 366204 R1. However, my parts book proceeds the end of the Farmall 130 production and therefore your block part number (and chassis serial) could be a late model 130.

I did find a listing for the blocks (otherwise identified as the CRANKCASE, assembly) with the following: 354985R94 C-123 501 to 36000. Also, 366294R91 C-123 36001 up.
I suppose you could check all the date codes on the major chassis parts (trans, engine, final tubes, etc) to help narrow the year of manufacture. Although I'm not sure of the sequence of the date codes....could be in 1956 they used "B", "C" for 1957, and "D" for 1958. These codes appear in a date arranged as follows: month, day, letter(year). For example, 5 * 5 * D would be May 5th, 1958.
I own a 1957 130 with chassis serial 4231 J. Here is a picture for reference.

Paul: Who are you trying to kid, the block part number for every Farmall 130 produced as it came from the factory was 366204 R1. What you are getting out of those parts books are replacement part numbers. Major casting replacement parts at IH in that era always carried a different number from originals.

Let me assure you, I can read a casting date code, and I have a hunch Mike can as well. Nice photo, however I doubt if any Farmall 130 came from the factory with those front wheels.

Mike: I doubt if your whole problem is sand blasting. Those 30-50 series tractors had the most poorly stamped serial tags known to man. I doubt if I can read my 130 number any more.

That engine number 58727 in my opinion is within 130 production. I know the stats book is saying 58560 however, given the quality of record keeping at IH, close will count. Since 130 and 230 were sharing a common sequence of engine numbers and the stats are saying 230 7671 had engine 57745, and 130 was 10209 with engine 58560, and these numbers I have don't say those were the last of each tractor. It only states that a certain engine that went into a particular tractor. Remember the engine sequence did continue and the first 140-240s had engines in the 65000 range.

My 130 has 56651 engine and tractor serial 9313, 896 before the end according to stats. Your block part number is correct for a 130. Farmall 130 would not have had foot throttle, International should have foot throttle. Maybe someone has installed wrong decals. Does it have square axle?

Does it have square or round front axle?. All IH 130s I have seen have square axle.
