Hey fellas. Thanks for the advice on the front end a few days earlier. I have a couple more questions. I have not bought a front end for this tractor yet. what would a schwartz front end for a 560 cost? And what's the best way to swap front ends outside? I don't have a shed with a concrete floor, the shed i do have is just a lean to and not enough room to do much in. What would I use to roll the front end out and in with? or should i somehow try to fix the norden? I've heard parts are very hard to find for them.

Hi, I'm in KS and I've been working on mine out in the blowing snow and now melted snow/mud. I haven't done a front end but get you a railroad tie or two and cut a 4x4 and a 2x4 for some good blocking along with a strong enough bottle jack and I wouldn't be afraid to tackle lifting up the front of the tractor. Where you need help is moving the wheels and bolster around. As a last resort if you don't have a big jack, just block it up and let the air out of your tires and pull the wheels off.

Do you have anything you can tie the hitch onto or a bale mover on back and let the hitch hydraulics help take some weight off the front end?

Thanks for the info fellas. Sounds like a pain in the neck to do and dangerous. Are spindles and tie rods out of a used IH or schwartz front end interchangble with a norden? Would they fit in that norden of mine? If so I'll just go that route so i don't have to worry about changing the whole front end. I'm up the creek without a paddle as far as being able to work on a concrete pad, at least for now anyways. Just how much do you think it would cost to have a mechanic shop swap it out for me? I normally like to work on my own stuff, but, if it's gonna be too dangerous without the right equipment, i don't wanna risk it. I'm just a youngster at only 27 years of age. Right now I just have the basics on tools and equipment. So should i take it to a shop and have them do it? Safety first.

I sold a used light duty schwartz on a consignment sale, it brought $310. I bought an IH factory wf on a different sale for $350, but it did cost $250 at the blacksmith shop to get a new thick walled tube put in where the main pivot pin goes through and a truss put under the center in case I want to put a loader on. Salvage yards around here were selling used IH wide fronts for $850 to $1000 gone through, but that was a year or 2 ago and everything has gone up since the grain markets went up. If you do put a schwartz under it make sure you get a heavy duty if there's any chance you will ever put a loader on the tractor. Lee

500.00 seems to be a nice round number for a used Schwartz. Then of course shipping comes into play if its very far away. I've changed them many times but must admit I wouldnt want to tackle it on the dirt or without good equipment.

1300 to 1400 with hubs. If you have 2 people you really don't need anything special, bottle jacks and some blocking. One person can do it but I would advise against it.

Just thinking out loud here,

But, if you've never swapped out a front, maybe it would be a good idea to get some help from someone who has. And for sure, don't try to change one out on anything except a good level cement pad if it is your first time.

The key to the whole process is being able to raise and lower the tractor as needed during the swap. However, the darned things can be dangerous, especially if you've never done it before.

Whatever you do, stay COMPLETELY out and away from underneith that tractor!

Allan

Cost will depend on who you buy it from. Check with your local dealers if you're looking at a new front end.
