Thanks Jerry for nice words. I had read in manual that pully had a notch it did not say 2 notches so it had me a little confused. I am not to sharp on engines and I have had to seek help on this forum before. I was feeling like maybe I should stop posting my dump questions if it was bothering some of these experts. After all it would not be much of forum if it was not for our dump questions to keep all the experts busy.

Hey Gator. Don't let someone like Wardner bother you, and you ask any and all questions you deem worthy. People like him go around all their life trying to prove their smarts. He was probably not a play ground bully, because no one wanted to play with him anyway. His remark is both childish and uncalled-for. Enjoy fixing up your cub. Jerry

Standing on the Port side of the tractor (left side when in the seat, or the carburator side of engine) the notch closest to you (when both are on top) is the 16 deg advance mark. The one further away (toward the alternator) is TDC.

Questions like this can be figured out if you stop to think.

First of all, there is no need to know where a retarded timing point is located. In fact, no mfg would make that mark. Lots of value in knowing where the advanced timing mark is. That is where some use a timing light.

Consequently, the first mark as it passes the pointer will be the advanced position because all engines fire before top-dead-center while running. The second mark will TDC. When the engine is not running, make your ignition deliver at TDC. The ignition system will advance itself when rotated at speed.

I time tractor engines by ear. Run the engine to high idle and rotate mag or distributor till the engine runs best. This is one of the reasons why dealers own dynos.

Were you the playground bully when you were a kid?

No, but you must be the village idiot.

I would rather teach someone to think than give him an answer he will soon forget. Chances are he won't have to ask this question again. He will figure it out by himself. On top of that he will enjoy his tractor more if he understands how it works.

We get a fair number of lazy people on this board who can't be bothered to think or do research.

Pardon me, I was wrong. You didn"t used to be the bully; you still are! Diplomacy is NOT your strong suit, condescension is.

Why can't anyone understand that you threw the first insult. This board is brain-dead.

I think it is unlikely that I will offer anymore help in the future.

Excuse me, but I believe you started by belittling the original question, and then stepped up on your soapbox. Sometimes its all in the way you say it. You gave very good advise, but hammered the questioner in your opening statement.
