My old IH needs rear tires (14-9 x 24) I"m still in shock after being told $455 per tire!! Anyone know a cheaper source than Firestone or Goodyear? The two tires are as much as the old lady is worth. Is there such a thing as recaps for tractors? or used tires. Can"t believe everyone pays that much. Hope someone has a better way than this!
Thanks

I called my tire guy near Sioux Falls, SD. 280 dollars for firestone 6 ply, 284 for Titan 6 ply. That's the carry out prices.

I have Titan's on the front of my Farmall 504 (8.50x16?) and I have priced Titan replacement rears (14.9x38?). The rears are larger than yours and were less than $400 each, less mounting and tubes. It is hard to find 13.8x38's so I priced the 14.9x38's. I am in North-Central Louisiana.

I'll tell ya, I had always used Firestone tires on my antique tractors and I like
'em fine. But....I like the idea of buying Good 'ole American Company stuff if I can get it and it gives me a good value. The last 3 tractors I cleaned up and painted for showing and amateur pulling got new Titans...I tried 'em because they were somewhat cheaper than the Firestones....from the same dealer, Millersburg Tire of Millersburg, Ohio who has always given me the best deals I could find. I've put them on a '51 H, a '49 M and a JD G and I like them fine...they look good, they're full size (some other cheapies aren't)with good heavy lugs. I admit they don't weigh quite as much as 151 Firestone Field and Roads size for size, but they're real close. Titan bought the Goodyear farm tire line it's true and I guess they make the Goodyear pattern tires too now. Regardless, Titan made the old Armstrong pattern tires before they got Goodyear and that's the style I like. I buy the 30 degree long bar-long bar design.

In order to help in your search one needs to know where you are at to know if it is feasible for you to pick the tires up!

Tire Town, Shawnee, KS, advertises 4 ply 14.9X24 at $175 new or $100 used.
8 Ply advertised at $225 new and $125 used.
Can't say if they have them in stock or not.

They may advertise them for that price but try buying a pair. I called Tire Town on and off for over a year and they never had any IN STOCK at that price.

If there are Les Schwab tire centers in your area I paid $219 each for bigger tires than that for my H.

Titan is definitely Chink made. I had some Titan trailer tires when one blew out and the trailer flipped over on its side with my tractor/backhoe on it. Tried to replace just one and found out they were chinese and Titan trailer company (the trlr company is not related to the tire manf.) quit carrying them. I had the tractor chained down with 5 chains and other than sliding over a few inches it stayed with the trailer. Took 2 winch trucks to pull the trailer and tractor back over.

My bad mistake. Sorry. The new ones I got were Titan. They are good tires. The blown tires were some offbrand from China.

Think again. Titan is the only U.S.A. made tire there is. They are manufactured in the old Firestone plant in Des Moines, Iowa.
