Hello, I finally purchased a new Koyker 220 loader for my Farmall 504. I am using my remotes for now to control the loader. I want to install a 3 spool valve for my loader and grapple. I am unsure if this is an "open-center" or "closed-center" hydraulic system. Any help on the matter, please respond.

Disregard my earlier post. I just learned from another thread that the 656/2656 is an open center system. I also saw a reference to open center in the hyd. parts listing at caseih.

My 2656 has a pilot valve for the powersteering pump but the other pump running the loader/hoe doesn't. So it clear as mud to me also. Unless mine is a dual system.

I am probably totally wrong about my reference to the log splitter too.

thanks. I got it now. My 656/2656 with a control/pilot valve which is supposed to keep the system at about 1600# psi would be a closed system.
I supposed the simplest version of an open system would be one of those stand alone log splitters at TSC.

As simple as I can make it, and just barely satisfactory explanation.
Open center has a clear path from pump to valve to reservoir, back to pump. No restrictions until valves move fluid into attachments.
Closed center Has a valve which maintains a pilot pressure on the pump, and pressurizes the valving as needed on demand. The pump is always under pressure, but not dead headed.
A priority valve in an open center system is similar in that it supplies pressure to a system (like power steering) while the main flow goes to the open center valves. JimN
