Swicthing a 1948 Cub from a mag. system to distributor system.. Now has a cut out instead of a regulator. Question is when rewiring this system can I follow Bob Melvins diagram for a Farmall H/M 6 volt generator w/cutout relay coil/ distributor ignition diagram? Seem like the set up I need

You need to replace the sw with one that has two posts the wire you now have goes to the sw and other post a wire needs battery voltage. The cut-out needs no change. This will put 6v to the coil and you will use the same wire now grounding out the mag. They usually run 6v on the side from the gen to the ammeter this way the ammeter will show discharge when the sw is on.
