How mnay bushel of shelled corn does a typical old flarebox without extention sides, hold?

I buy ear corn and weigh it over the scale. 3000 lbs is an average load in a flare box, maybe as much as 3300 if it is rounded up real good.

You say old that opens up a big story as there were so many different sizzes of the old flare boxes. Some were steel,galvanized then wood then added on to the old horse wagons. The only way to know about yours is measure. These posts are getting flare boxes all mixed. When you said old they held around 60-70 it took a barge box to hold 100. Some still sell around here even some with hoists.

I have two old flare boxes I use for feed wagons. I have to work really hard get my 135 bushel grinder emptied into one of them, so that should be pretty close, although the grinder probably really doesn't hold quite that many bushels. Lee

80 to 85 bu for a std size flare.

I do crop insurance claims and part of our job is to occasionally "measure" a gravity box. Not to be a smart a**, but you could be talking anywhere from 150 bushel to 600 bushel. We generally try to get the farmer to take it to town and get it weighed. There are formulas to measure a gravity wagon. It generally involves trying to divide the box up into cubes, pyrimids, etc. and figuring the cubic feet. Take the cubic feet time .8 and you will have bushels, as long as the moisture and test weight are good.

If you have a brand name and model, there may be someone on here that knows exactly. If you are real interested, let me know and I can dig up the formulas for you.

A gravity box is entirely different than a flair box. a flair box is tipically 10' long and 38" or 42" wide buy depending on maker 15" to 30" straight sides then a 1 board wide flair 10-12" wide at about a 45* angle with a top sideboard of 10-20" and the bottom is totally flat and to dump one of them you would raise the front wheels of the wagon on a hoist.

I have 2 IHC flareside beds.The i remember they hold hold 50 bu ear corn. About 95 or 100 bu shelled.
