I recently bought a head that was reportedly from a 230. I want to put it on my Super C for a little more compression/power. I would like to know how to verify that this is the head I am looking for before rebuilding it. I haven't had the head off of these engines before, so can't recognize the combustion chambers. Casting numbers are not legible, date code "might" be a C. Valve length as measured with a tape measure is 5 and 5/16. What is it?

Look for the numbers on the valves, it was the only way I found out which head I had. each head has different valve numbers. Paul Sigmund gave me this info. intake: 366302R1 (for 240 and 340) exhaust: 366303R1 intake: 366302R2 (for 404)
exhaust: 366303R3

Thanks for the info! My intake valve has 366302R1, so it must be the head I am looking for. Any idea how many HP I will gain?

Now that's a loaded question for sure. The only way to know for sure is to do a before and after run on a pto dyno which I wish I owned. Good Luck,
Charles

They should be the same but to make sure count the head bolts. You should have 9 on your super C.

That 230 head will bolt right on to a Super C.
