Can anyone help with the torque value for the rear axle bolt? Thanks, Greg

I have a copy of the seed plate drive instructions, which is held on by that bolt on the left side. It calls for 135 to 145 ft-lbs.

Greg: You've lost me, is this the bolt that holds axle in final drive or bolts that hold wheel on axle. I've looked through my IT manual and my IH Blue Ribbon service manual and see nothing re torque on either. It's been 45 years since I had a final drive apart, as I recall it was maximum pull on an 18" wrench handle, seems to have worked well. On the wheels I've been using a 24" handle on my bolts. I probably don't get anymore ft-lb on the 24" handle today than 18" 45 years ago, at least I sence that.

45 years ago, I could take the rear cast hub of a 560 from the ground and place it on the axle. I don't think I can do that anymore.

Hi Hugh, I'm putting my finals back together and I need to tighten the bolt holding the rear axle, bull gear, and bearings in the final drive housing. It's a 5/8 NF bolt and appears to only be a machine grade bolt. I want to be sure to have it tightened correctly before installing the cap. There are no specs in my manual either.

I can relate, the things I could do fifteen, twenty years ago and my abilities today are very different. What's up with that anyway?

Thanks, Greg

Greg: It may be we did too much of that, back when we were able.

Yes, now I work twice as hard and get half as much done.

There's some truth to that statement!

I looked up standard torque specifications and found a couple of web pages on the subject. It seems that I should be safe using 95 to 100 ft. lbs. for the axle bolt.
