It was about 10 above and I was going to throw some snow. Started the tractor, but none of the hydraulics work. I let it run almost 1 hour but still no go (I have a heat houser on it which I thought might help). Supposed to get another 10 degrees warmer so will try again this afternoon.
It has been quite cold this past week, down to -24 degrees. I put in new fluid last fall, and also put a new hydraulic pump on it last fall. Now the fluid is almost white again.

First question, when you guys change fluid do you drain any hoses or just the transmission and reservoir?
Second question, can I, or did I, hurt anything by letting it run with the hydraulics not working?
Third question, where would you guess it is froze at (if I need to try to get more heat on it)?
Thank You for reading.
Jim

I doubt if you hurt the system. The pump rund the distributor, and it was probaably not completely dry in the pump housing. I would not put alcohol in the Hytran. The rubber and other components would not like it at all. It would also probable loosen a bunch of sedentary sediment and cause it to plague the system with dirt. Heat with a portable heater and some protection is probably the solution of choice. Removing a few gallons into a pan, then heating to drive off the moisture would help also. Many stories in the archives on ridding oil of H2O.
Getting it all out when changing is tough. Good luck, JimN

Fourth question when, and if I get it going, will it hurt or help anything if I put a bottle of isopropyl in the hydraulic reservoir? Just trying to avoid working on it outside until spring.
