I've got my M all torn down, just cleaning parts so I can re-paint it.On the front gas tank mount there is a flat strap about six inches long, kinda L shaped on one end and bent around like a U on the other.I've seen this on a couple other M's but I haven't seen anything bolted to it.What is it for? Could it be a bracket for the starting tank?Mine doesn't have one and has the **X1 serial number.Other than the fact that it came off of my M,is there any reason to put it back on?John.

Thi thing sets in front on the front gas tank stand. The cast iron one,so I guess its kinda between the engine and the cast oart, below the front of the tank.Mines bent out of shape,so it wasn't being used for anything recently. Thanks for the help so far.John.

Which side is it on? The only other brackets of any sort on any of my Ms are on the right side,as if your sitting on it, and "points" toward the back. Its has a hole in it for a spring loaded little piece that holds the choke rod. Seems theres on on the left side thats maybe a wire clip.

That is, I believe, a bracket for the shutter control linkage. I have it on my M. Not knowing what it was I turned it onto a mounting bracket for the voltage regulator. When I bought a shutter linkage my Super M, it came with that very same bracket.

Could it be part # 37596D choke rod holder(retired number)?
