I recently purchased a 240 Utility tractor that was being used as a parts tractor. The engine is stuck and it is missing quite a few parts. I was wondering if the engine from an A or B would bolt up. I know that I would lose the hydraulics, but would it work otherwise?
Thanks

240U owner, Hal & Migraine,

I think the easiest way if he doesn't want to rebuild his block is to look for a 140 or 240 engine, either one should bolt right up.

The issue with the 340 block, I believe is more to do with the back end of the tractor being from the Super H/300/350 line which has a different bellhousing than the Super C/200/230/240/404 line. I'm not aware of any block differences between the Utility/Row crop versions (understanding that the 330/340 are hybrid versions to start with, their blocks definately different than the 300/350's).

The guy with the extra 340 block needs to look for a 330 or 340, poss a 504? And as has been mentioned before, the A/B is not a good idea as they don't have a mount for the hyd pump; the C/Super A/Super C/100/200/130/230 while possible, is not an easy bolt in swap because of the differences up front in the accy's and the radiator connections.

The row crop block does not bolt up in the utility version. I know because I tried to tell a gent here that a block from 340 utility would not bolt up in a Farmall 404. But he thought he knew better and spent 2000 bucks redoing the 340 motor only to find out it will not bolt up. Last time I saw it the 340 motor was hanging on a stand all redone and nowhere to go with it. Plus he already threw away parts from the 404 motor so he is hexed twice. A 404 Utility or 340 Utility (INTERNATIONAL instead of Farmall) should bolt up but I would do lots of measuring before I would make the deal. Migraine

I would find an engine off the Super C or the 340.
The later Super A's with the C123 engine too. Hal
