Well i just bought an 886 turbo-diesel. I am new to IH, always been a Deere man, but i couldn"t pass this deal up. I need some help, i have never driven a torque amplifier. I have run an old Super MTA and when the TA was on it went into free wheel mode and i almost lost it down a hill. Will this tractor do that? Also anything i need to be looking out for with this thing?

Thanks in advance
-Bryan

I think it's a cable... should be able to take apart the dash and see what's there.

The TA will not free-wheel on an 886. Do NOT use it as a brake - it will hurt parts and possibly over-rev the engine.

Shift it in one second or less, both ways. It's made to be shifted quick.

ok thanks...the TA lever is tough to pull down but goes up very easy...it must be hung up somewhere, how is that operated?..by a cable?

Moving the lever: kind of an overcenter setup is part of what you describe, a little lubrication might help if you can get it to the right spot. There is a spring that helps throw it up. If it freewheels its broke. But don't use it as a brake, only to downshift under load. You can use it up and down hills if that is the gear you find that fits yuor needs. And about every thing else I've seen in the replies.
