Just bought a Farmall H and had a friend get it running. I hooked a 4 foot bushhog to it but when I shifted gears and engaged the clutch the engine died and the PTO and lift locked up. Can anybody tell me whats wrong here and how to fix it? Thanks.

one other thing just crossed my mind. what is your outside temperature?? have you been below freezing for a couple days? could be there is water in the rear end and it froze and you got a chunk of ice in there. had one of my m's do that years ago. had to put a torpedo heater on it to melt it then drain the water out. got 3-4 gallons out.

First off. Will it start back up if you hold the clutch pedal down?? Then if you take it out of gear both the transmission and PTO will it keep run if you let up on the clutch or does it die again. If it dies most likely stuck in 2 gears but if it keeps running then probably a carb or fuel system problem

yup I'm with glennster on this one sounds like you are locked in 2 gears [not uncommon],, or is there a possibility that you are frozen in the gear box or tranny??

I would start small like glennster said, diengage everything and then go from there,

sounds like you got it stuck in two gears. withe the clutch in see if you can roll the tractor (engine off) if it acts like the brakes are locked on, its stuck in two gears. pull the shifter, reach down in the hole with a screwdriver and line the shift rods back up.

O.K. you have too many things going at once. Let's walk through it 1 at a time. tutn off the pto and put the hyd in down position. Start the tractor, will it stay running with the clutch pushed down?
