Super A transmission, ball bearing removal

I’m in the process of replacing the transmission bearings of my Super A. The pin through the reverse spline gear was removed and I moved the spline shaft (upper, or input shaft) towards the rear by about 1 inch. (Both ball bearings still on the spline shaft, just clear of their bores.) As a next step, I guess, I have to remove the ball bearing from the front end of the spline shaft. How can this be done? The Service Manual says “drive the shaft out through the gears toward the rear”, not a word about the bearings…
Any and all help appreciated. Hendrik.
