I am interested in a ROPS for a Farmall 504 R.C. It seems that it is near impossible to find one new. Was a ROPS an option in 1963? Did a manufactuer produce one aftermarket? I like the peace of mind a ROPS provides, but mainly want something to mount a canopy to without fabricating a super-structure. Any help appriciated.

Here is the listing from the Marshfield Clinic. You might call you Case/IH dealer as well.

Tractor House magazine has salvaged ROPS w/canopy's painted for @ $1000.00 I see them advertised in there toward the back pages of the magazine. They have JD & IH.

New aftermarket ROPS should be available. I know of at least one company that at least was manufacturing them and advertising in one of the major farm magazines. Heck they make them for Hs and Ms on up as far as I know.

Charles: It was very rare to see a ROPS in 1963. I doubt if you will find a new one, however the ROPS from any 504, 656, 666, 686 or 544 will fit.

ROPS becomes a very expensive article for any manufacturer to build. They probably have to double the price just to cover their own liability should the device fail. Unless they see huge volume, which would narurally reduce the chance of a liability claim, they will not get very excited about this trade. Each ROPS has to be engineered to suit the type of tractor chassis. Lets face it 40+ year old tractors are never going to give them volume.
