Hello,

I would like to know where to start with this motor. 436dt in a 1466.

Symptons:
Low power
Higher fuel consumptin and hazing/smoking at medium load.
Hard starting Needs either below 45* or won't start at all.

History: Motor is a rebuilt aprox 2000 hours ago.
Not sure if pump was rebuilt at that time.

I belive it's problem is in the pump or pump timming. Can the timming be checked easily??

I belive the motor should start down to 32 without either or plugged in.

Where should I start??

thanks

Just a Hunch. Check the fuel hose from the final filter to the side of the injection pump. If it has been replaced with a "will fit" hyd hose you can have all kinds of funny symptons. BELIEVE ME !!!! I have seen it several times. Hope this helps.

Check for air restrictions, filter collasped, hoses, ect. Also check for restrictions in the fuel delivery system. If she can't get enough fuel, she'll struggle starting and loss of power. Learned along time ago, IH fuel filters will have more power on a dyno test than most aftermarket filters. Cost me a sevice call and getting my tractor to the shop, paying them to tell me my new aftermarket filters were restrictive by 20 hp. Put a guage on the intake manifold behind the turbo and see if you have any boost pressure. If not, turbo bad. Then pull injectors and do a compression check, check injectors while they are out. Then pull pump and have it checked. Somewhere along the line pull the valve cover and check clearances. This is then approach I'd take. you'll find it somewhere along the search.

Good luck!
Bill
