This is a bit off topic, but I"m hoping someone here can help me out. I agreed to make a birthday cake for a friend"s 90th birthday. I"m an amateur at cakes, but I try to do things that have meaning. After talking with his son, I think I can manage his 1966 IHC 1-ton grain truck. Problem is, I can"t find a picture online of a 66.

Everything else will be close enough, but I"d like to see a picture of the front end so I can get the grill right.

Anybody got a photo handy?

Generally speaking at the time, International truck models were considered as following as to size: 1000 1/2 ton, 1100 heavy duty 1/2 ton, 1200 3/4 ton, 1300 1 ton, 1500 1 1/4 ton, 1600 1 1/2 ton. Actually the GVW's could overlap in some cases between models due to various optional suspensions and axles.

Our VFD has a 63 IH brush truck built by Howe.It is a dually so it must be a 1 ton.Best truck in the building.I'd take it over the new ones any day.Only a handful of us can drive it(non-syncro 4 speed)Can't get it thru their heaads that it is geared so low that you don't watch the speedo, you watch the tach(3500 max)Fellow several years ago floated the valves and bent the pushrods. If I can figure out how to do it I'll post a pic or two.

John, If it was a grain truck I would guess at it being a 1 1/2 ton, probably a 1600 Loadstar. Search for 1600 or 1700 Loadstar and you will probably find a picture you can use. If it was a 1 ton it would be a 1300 (not loadstar) but that is really too small to be a grain truck. Most single axle grain trucks in that time period were either International 1600 Loadstar, Chevrolet 60, or Ford 600 in our area.

Actually, IH made a 1500 series that used the same cab as the 1/2-tons, but they were on [IIRC] 5-lug Budd style wheels with 7.50-20 tires. Loadstar cab was different than the 1500.

So it might be a '66 1500, rather than a Loadstar.

For pictures, go to www.oldihc.org and click on the link to "Our Trucks Pics" and browse until you find the right one.
