New A rocker arm question

Why are the tips for the rocker arms in a saddle shape? I would think that they should be flat to match the valve stem better. All of mine are like a saddle with a slight curve, I dont think its from ware.
Is there a certain way I should align the holes on the rocker bar before bolting it back on the head? I had the rockers off to put a spacer in. I dont think it would matter, but thought I would ask.
Thanks

They are rounded so the rocker can keep a consistant contact area on the valve stem. The rocker does not push straight down on the valve, the angle changes as it moves, so the rounded rocker tip "rolls" across the valve stem as it pushes.

Just make sure the flat spots on the rocker shaft are lined up so the two places the mounting studs can clear. The places where the rockers meet the valve stem are supposed to be rounded.
