Like Sagebrusher says, if I remember there was the tee then about a 4" nipple that the original cap fit onto with the segmented dipstick. This setup provided a space between the return oil and the vented cap. A non detergent or Hy-tran, any hydraulic oil should foam less than a detergent oil.

M Hyd Res Overflow in reply to plowboy 14505, 01-20-2008 17:21:49
You may have detergent oil or detergent residue in the system. It could be a bit overfilled too or:
If you are using the original two way remote or "christmas tree" make sure that you have the reservoir filler cap with the small brass valve on the top. It is common for the original vented cap to overflow or for oil to vent through the res. filler cap valve if it is left open while using the two way. Or you could just cap the filler off with a 3/4" pipe cap.
Our '50 M has M&W distributor pump and uses the lift all pump res. It is plumbed into a two spool after market valve bank for the 3pt and a remote under the seat. It returns oil to a Tee plumbed into the bottom of the belly pump. It has never overflowed the vented cap. Our '46 has an IH two way remote plumbed to the the original belly pump. When we use the two way we have to insure that the small valve on the filler cap is in the closed position or it overflows. HTH Don

I have an M&W on an M with an external reservoir instead of the one for the belly pump. If I put too much oil in it will come out the vent. You might try less oil. It will also depend on how much you are using the pump. I use SAE 30 detergent. Non detergent or the more correct Hytran may foam less, reducing the loss. Mine does not use any IH parts, just a spool valve.

Where do you have the return oil flow plumed to? If you do not return it near the bottom of the reservoir it can cause the oil to foam. Returning it to a tee in the fill tube will definitely blow oil out the vent.

Re: Oil return on IH remote valve in reply to Randy SE-MN., 01-20-2008 18:00:54
Hi Randy Not Owen but the original IH parts package included a tee and nipple that was installed in the Liftall's filler line under the filler cap/dipstik. the oil was returned back through the bottom of the valve and into this tee just underneath the filler cap. The package included the replacement three segment jointed dipstick to compensate for the added length and obstructed access.
My manual is in the shop and I'm to lazy to run down there in my slippers. Best regards Don
