On the M that I recently bought, non-running, there was a little antifreeze in the oil filter and about 1/2 a quart in the pan when I drained it just two nights ago.

I am just wanting to know if there is any common problem with cracked heads or something similar that I should look for with this engine. Anything to start looking for? One guy suggested retorquing the head, which do to 10 degree temps, hasn't happened yet.

I'm just trying to put together a game plan on how I should go about fixing this problem.

Thanks, from 10 degree central Indiana

Joey

MY PROBLEM WAS A RUSTY FREEZE PLUG ON THE FRONT OF THE BLOCK BELOW THE WATER PUMP BEHIND THE FRONT PLATE.
THERE ARE ALSO TWO FREEZE PLUGS AT THE REAR OF THE BLOCK.
GOOD LUCK

Once you have the engine started and warmed up, look into the radiator and see if bubbles are present. If you do, I would pull the head and have it magna-fluxed. Hal

Does it run?? If it does run then I would warm it up and then torque the head bolts when its warm. If you find any of them loose then you probably have found the problem. If none are loose then its probably a bad head gasket. But yes it could be a cracked head or other things also

Probably a head gasket.
