sorry long-time no post. I finally got a question that got me puzzled. what were the models that the 1086 replaced?. meaning this model, the model that replaced that, then the 1086. thanks

That "line/build" of tractor was totally new in 1965 and wasn't a "decendant" of anything.

In that particular power range, the trade-up progression would have been:

1206 in 1965
1256 in 1967
1066 in 1971
1086 in 1976

Allan: I agree, there was really nothing prior to large chassis 06 series tractors that was remotely related to them.

Well, here's my thoughts...

Big dog used to be the WD9, then 600, 650, 660 - then a major redesign to the 806/1206 which was followed by the 1256/1456, then the (forgive oxymoron) "smallest big tractor" was the 1066 followed by 1086, then finally the 5088 and 7110 Case-IH.

The 1086 pretty well directly replaced the 1066 as it has the same engine, grille, etc. and basically just added the quiet cab.
