Would you like to see a Farmall 460 and IH Baler at work baling hay on Lambeau Field? I"m not computer savvy enough to know how to post the article and picture on this site, but maybe one of you can do this for all to see.
In "Search", type "Wisconsinhistory.org", then hit "Search". On the Search line, type "Farmall 460 and Baler". First line that comes up is what you want.
The picture was taken Dec 31, 1961. The Packers had put down 20 tons of hay to insulate the field for that day"s game vs the Giants. The temp was something like this yr; about Zero degrees. At 9AM the 460 was busy baling the hay. Tractor has an IH brand Heat Houser on it, has wide front, and baling windrows of hay.
IH to the rescue of an NFL game! Go Pack!

Lowell: When you sent me this photo last evening, before I did any reading, I said to myself,"Lowell is loosing his marbles, out baling hay in the middle of Jan., and in WI to boot.

Then I read on, by the way it's a 460 with a 46 baler. No one in his right mind would have taken a 45 out in public by 1961. By then everyone who owned one were ashamed to admit it.

Getting back to the reading, and I'm not a football fan. My son is, sons in law are, brother in law is, thus I can understand football fan's weaker moments. Take me, I'm kind of in there with Bob Newhart, "The object of the game is to carry that little ole pumpkin from one end of that cow pasture without stepping in, or falling in something".

I know I should be a bit more respectful Lowell, you are a football fan and an even bigger Packer fan.

Hugh, Andy Griffith would be offended that you attribute his classic skit to Bob Newhart!

Dick: Are you suggesting I've made a mistake. I'm not going to argue, as it was 1958 I heard that recording. Thinking it was Bob Newhart, I've often looked for a copy of my own. Never did find it, you may have explained the reason. Probably Bob never recorded it, and I should have been looking for Andy all these years.

Gosh, I could have sworn that was Bob, but I guess they do sound a bit alike.

Hugh,
You have goofed...big time! It was Andy Griffith who did "What It Was, Was Football". I have the old 78-rpm record & jacket (Capitol Records) right here beside me. On the same record he did "Carmen" and "Romeo & Juliet", and another person did "Conversation With A Mule". And I first heard Andy"s Football when I was in HS at lunchbreak and I graduated in "55. We didn"t own a record player at home in those years.
You say Andy and Newhart sound the same? You probably heard them on those metric air waves you have up there...those guys don"t sound alike down here in the tropics with our kind of air waves. Lowell

Lowell: I readily see you and Dick will probably not let me live this one down. What is even more madening, is all those years I looked for that recording, had I been looking Andy Griffith, I probably would have the recording today. I really enjoyed the humor of both Andy and Bob.

My wife and I were driving across MI last summer, and a local station was playing a recording of Bob describing a toupee he had spilled food on, then tossed it in the washer. He went on to describe all the many things that happened to the toupee.

Looks to me like a 46. Has the open flywhel in front and the 45 was inside the machine.

That was neat to see, thanks for bring it up. Modern tech back then. Looks like a IH45 baler maybe. I have a IH37 and it looks different than that one. Oh, Im no Giants fan either, I like Buffalo lol. Looks like the cold from up there is heading our way to NY, -10 Saturday night and a high of 9 Sunday with winds. Gotta get some fire wood in. Keep warm. j
