While ordering parts for my engine rebuild, the parts guy told me that Farmall 130 either came with a C113 or C123. I don't think so; I think he is confused because the C113 block had the same size O.D. ( 3 5/16")on the sleeve as the block in the C123 that was used in the Farmall 130. These two engines would use the same sleeve, whereas the C123 in my Farmall 100 had the different O.D. on the sleeve at the sealing area.

Is this correct?

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for the replies. It can be confusing to some of the part guys that aren't familiar with the different configurations of the C113 and C123. When I ordered the parts, I supplied the Engine Block Number and the Engine Serial Number. I don't think that meant too much. It got down to a discussion about which kit numbers they listed that would work. Basically, the only difference in two of the kits was that the one listed for the C113 had the same sleeves, etc. but would probably have a different head gasket since the C123 in the Farmall 130 had a water pump. The kit listed for the C113 with Farmall 130 in the same listing was about $45.00 cheaper than the one listed specifically for the C123.

I actually think this is the first time the engine has ever been rebuilt; judging from the extreme amount of "blue smoke" coming from the exhaust.

I did order the C123 kit with the 3 5/16" O.D. sleeves with the stepped head pistons, so I will hope for the best.

Thanks again,

Compare the length of the new sleeves to the old sleeves you're removing. Hal

The C113 engines used sleeves that were 3 5/16" at the seal and were 6 7/8" long. To make it even more confusing the Super A's used the C113 engine and some of the later tractors had the C123 engine, but used thicker sleeves to keep the 113cid. Then the later tractors had the C123 engine with thinner sleeves to boost the cid to 123". Measure the old sleeves. Be sure to clean that block area where the seals are of all rust and dirt. A wire brush on a drill motor works well. This will let the engine cool better and keep those seals from leaking. Hal

Hal: Nothing confusing about it, those two blocks used on Super A tractors have different part numbers. I question how many of these have ever been bored to accept different sleeves. Economically it just ain't worth it, one can find another block for half the price. Order the damn kit from block parts number, and it will work, unless the block has been bored. Damn remote in my opinion.

Re: Farmall 130 one other item in reply to Lewis, 01-16-2008 18:25:33
Lewis: One other item, in my 65 years, I've never seen one of these blocks bored for any reason. Boring costs enough that most folks go out and buy another block. As far as boring for more power, I can't see it. If you gathered together 5 of each C-113, C-123 equiped tractors for a working drawbar pull, I guarentee you not all the C-123 will be in the top 5. I have had other boring done, and those folks charge big bucks.

Until I can be convinced otherwise, I can only assume folks that bore C-113 or C-123 engines, like to waste money. I can see boring big engines, but not these little engines. I've seen these guys promoting boring imported 4 cylinder car engines. Those little engines are being crushed everyday. This boring promotion here on YT, must be a group of retired machinists with nothing better to do.

Lewis: Unless someone has bored the engine, and after 50 years there could have been a good reason for doing so, you should be able to order an engine kit as per engine block part number. I 've done this about 6 times, lifetime and it always works.

Two things that confuse parts guys with these little tractors are boring to modify for another kit, and switching engines. It is possible to put a C-113 engine from one of the earliest A into a late model 140. Parts guys have been burned on this one quite often, thus they tend to make sure you are sure of what you have. No one likes to face an angry customer coming back with a kit that doesn't fit. They have an unhappy customer, a kit that has been opened from packaging, and possibly scratched from trying to put a sleeve in the wrong size hole.

If your 100% certain it's never been bored, the block part number will work for ordering a kit. If your not certain take Hal's figures, and check them against your engine.

Tractordata has the C123 engine listed for the 130 tractor. The sleeve diameter should measure 3.4375" at the seal and the overall length is 7 1/16". I would measure your old sleeves. Hal
PS: You may be able to increase the cylinder bore to 3.250".

A 130 will have a 3.3125 (3-5/16) sleeve even though it has a C123 engine.
