putting sleeves in the super m today, tisco kit from this site. when the sleeve is fully seated, i am getting about .015 of the sleeve sticking up above the block. the grooves are all clean and the sleeve is all the way down. is this within tolerance or do i need to get the sleeves surfaced down a little so they are flat on the top ?

The sleeves are supposed to fit flush to the block surface.

i called the machine shop that did the block, he did deck the block to square it up. he said he can machine down the tops of the sleeves so they fit. ah well, back to the machine shop.

I had this problem with a Super C. Apparently, the previous owner had the block decked and my sleeves stuck up too much and the head gasket leaked. I had the sleeves turned down, but if you still can, ideally it would be better to have the block counterbored, because the next person will be cussing you when they do an overhaul. Roger

I don't know about the SM. I put sleeves in a M and they were flush after installed, same for a H. I think you should call the supplier and ask them. If they don't know, call your IH dealer. Good luck.

I know they are supposed to be above the deck of the block on a B or C engine. But they had a wet sleeve in them.I think the same holds true for the dry sleeves too.I guess I didn't help much, but I needed practice typing anyway.John.
