Howdy, boys:

Where I live the tractor junkyards are somewhere between rare and non-existant. Therefore, I have to use ebay. But, gee whiz, it is getting irksome. Some of these sellers really think they are better than the rest of us. Two of the things many of them do that bother me the most are:

1) "I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THIS AUCTION AT ANY TIME AS ITEM IS FOR SALE LOCALLY." Well, no.... you really don't have the right to end the auction early. How is that fair to the bidder? What other auction will let you end early once your item is on the block, simply because someone locally wants it? Auctions were designed to be fair to both consignor and bidder - both to play by the same rules. I can't withdraw or abandon my bid if I find an item for sale locally - unless I want negative feedback. If you put your item on ebay, then TAKE IT OFF THE LOCAL MARKET UNTIL THE AUCTION IS OVER. If your reserve is not met, then put it up for sale locally again. Meantime, be fair to your bidders.

2) "I LEAVE POSITIVE FEEDBACK AFTER IT HAS BEEN LEFT FOR ME." Really! Gee, that's nice - FOR YOU. You've got my money and the item I won is still in your possession prior to shipment, and you still can't leave me positive feedback - after I've done everything a good buyer is supposed to do? What are you afraid of - that your description of the item was not accurate? So...., the only way I can get positive feedback is if I first leave it for you? That sure makes your feedback rather worthless, and to a lessor extent, makes mine suspect also. Tell you what; just don't leave me any feedback if those are the rules I have to play by in order to get good feedback. And, I won't leave any for you, either. And, "thanks" for ruining the value of feedback.

Sorry to vent, guys. But, this ebay is fast becoming a one-sided crap-shoot because of these self-centered ego maniac sellers. It's their one chance in life to play God, I suppose.

I agree and when they post a packing fee for something they are selling I just move on and won`t bid on their item...

Mike I believe I saw a post a while back that said you were moving to North Alabama. If you are indeed in North Alabam Farmall Heaven is not far from you. Campbells used parts in Lawrenceburg TN has a large yard full of letter series tractors plus a lot of 140s. He is couple of miles East of town and US 64 literally runs through his lot. Do not expect neatly arranged and displayed parts as tractors or scatter over large area in the weeds. He also has a lot of new parts.

I agree, therefore I rarely use Ebay-if I do I simply wont bid on items with the terms you have shown examples of.As far as Im concerned if thats how they do business-they can keep it.
CNKS makes a good point-Steel Wheel Ranch,Bates Corp,YT classifieds/photo ads,this site sells parts,etc.
I spend my money how I want not how a seller tells me.
Just my thoughts

#1. I can sorta agree, butI can understand the statement, and the sellers side. We should know what ites will bring on ebay, and if someone comes along and offers us twice of wha twe think it will sell for, then by all means we should sell, even though someone else may get mad. After all, we put it on ebay to make some money off of it, right? But it is kinda dirty to get someone elses hope up, and then sell it before the auction ends. Thats what a Buy It Now is for.
#2. I AGREE 100% with the statement. As a buyer, I leave feedback when my product arrives. Its honest feedback, not some waishy washhy made up statement to help the seller look better. As a seller, once the transaction is complete, I wait until feedback untril its left for me just in case the buyer isnt happy with what he bought, and we can get something worked out to make the buyer happy. I put this in all my auctions!

Mike: I've yet to see anything on e bay that I really wanted or needed, thus this has not affected me greatly. Most of the items I might buy in anticipation I might use in the future, are no where near what I call a bargain.

I do agree e bay has some very kinky sellers, definitely not bussiness men.

I like eBay. I save tons of money and I don't have to burn fuel to do it. It is a far better sales medium than classifieds due to the pictures.

Just take OEM Tractor, for instance. Why should I place an order from their catalog when I can get the same OEM item for 20-40% off on eBay?

I leave feedback as a courtesy and because it strengthens eBay but I don't analyise anyone's attitude. All my purchases have been good and that is all that matters.

It is hard to understand why people terminate an auction early. Most of the action occurs in the last ten minutes. My bidding starts in the last 10 seconds. I am greatful that eBay uses a fixed termination time. Other sites will let an auction run for ten minutes after the last bid. That only helps sellers.

I am really pleased that I bought a new Muncie PTO for my Dodge 1-ton for 22% of (not off) the cheapest price I could find locally or on the net. Several days later I bought a new Parker hydraulic wobble-plate piston pump that mates to the PTO for 24% of list. Those prices included the shipping. What's not to like? I can say that those prices really improved my attitude.

Not real experienced with #1 but #2 really fries my oysters. Half the time now they never do leave feedback. Just recently became an ebay seller and selling is no great shakes either. About 20% of my auctions are bid up by people who never pay and have zero feedback.

Dave, if you have quite a few parts to sell, you might want to look into opening an ebay store. You list your items with a buy it now price and no one has to bid. If they want it, they buy it, and at your price. I have pretty much given up on the auction side of ebay, but sales are really good from my store.

Forget Ebay, I have never used it and likley never will, except for an occasional "buy it now" item, I'm simply not interested in the auction part. Mike Bunck at Steel Wheel Ranch will have nearly everything you need, and you can trust him to tell you the condition. Bates is another source, there are others.

I kind of agree. I can remember when ebay was in its infancy, there were amazing deals on that site. The odds of getting a good "deal" anymore are rare. People know what stuff is worth. Most items I see the opening bid or reserve (near as I can guess) is more than I'm willing to give for something site unseen. I buy a few small things here and there, but nothing major. There is not really much "auction" to it anymore. Its just like placing a classified ad in the paper or one of those trader magazine. "Here it is, take it or leave it." Only difference is its a lot easier because you don't have to leave the comfort of your computer to sell anything. Especially since nowadays people can hardly wipe their backside without the aid of a computer.

yea that ticks alot of us off, put it in the ring and see what happens,, the other is the reserve,,

I put all mine on for the least I will take for it and it runs the whole time, if there is someone locally that wants to buy it,, guess what they can bid on it as well,, I will give them the number,,

I had a funny instance today, I am selling 2 trailer plugs, on 2 different auctions,9.99 each,,, both have had bids on them for a few days now,,, today some bozo emails me . says he offers me 15 dollars for both with 5.00 shipping????? it took a while to understand that one,,,

all sellers dont end auctions early,, I know I am one that doesnt, it takes all kinds in all areas of business, it all comes down to integrity,, or the all mighty dollar,,, just an add to your rant, good luck with your purchases,,pat

Use YT classified ads if you don't like eBay. Like everything else in the world, once the shady people figure out ways around the rules it goes downhill quick.

I use eBay more and more sparingly all the time. Seems like whatever I find on eBay I can search around and get it cheaper elsewhere without an auction format.

What's that saying? Caveat Emptor or something...

My score should be about 400 but its only 73 because I refuse to give feedback first unless I am the seller. Since I mostly buy I really could care less what my feedback score is. Most buyers dont worry about buying from someone with my amount of points anyway. Just dont leave them any feedback!

Joe

PS. Or if you are smart you can wait til the last second and leave them negative!
