Is there any visible difference between the 358ci and the 360ci diesel engines? I'm needing do a complete rebuild and have been asked if its a 358 or 360. I can't find any numbers on the block to identify what it is. Was wondering if there is any obvious difference.

The Austrailan 766 used the Neuss D-310 (75 pto hp), from 1971-1976. These tractors were assembled in Geelong, Austraila.

Here's some more info... Link

Its the 360. The 358 is the german engine and they were not installed in the 766 or any 66 series tractor for that matter.

Overhaul kit 1,100+ minus machine labor, oil pump, cam shaft & lifters, cleaning and flowing the injectors, and head job. BMT can sell a short block for 3200+. Thanks for your input Allen.

It's got to be the 360-it's just as you described and looks just like yours with a deeper shroud. Your opinion-would I be better off rebuilding or replace with a short block. I need the crank turned, cam shaft, lifters pistons, sleeves, basically all the rotating parts.

Can you even find a short block for 'em any more? Bet it would be pretty spendy.

O/H kits for those things are really pretty reasonable. Guess I'd rebuild it if the crank can be turned. While you're there bolt on a new oil pump too.

Didn't know they even put the Germans in the 766, did they? Thought it was just the gas and the 360?

Right side of engine. Two oil filters standing vertically and a long oil cooler laying horizontially makes 'er a 360.

Has a deep fan shroud as compared to the bigger 414 in the 9s and 10s also.

360 will look identical to this one, only with the longer fan shroud.

The serial number on the clutch housing is 2490181U010724*, model F766, if this helps.
