Hello all, can any one tell me if there was ever a factory 3 point hitch put on a Farmall or were they all 2 points? I am thinking from around 1952 and older. Thank you.

The British BM had a 3pt linkage available from about 1950. It use the belly hydrailic pump with a cylinder on each side of the transmission case with levers pivoting on the base of the belly pump to operate the rear arms. The later Super BM, BMD and Super BW-6 etc tractors (mid 1950s) used an engine pump to operate a hydraulic cylinder on the rear of the transmission to operate a hydraulic drawbar which also operated the 3 point lift.
The Australian AOS-6 (like a later W-6 with the M type frames sides (early 1950s) used a Farmall M type belly pump to power a hydraulic cylinder under the transmission cover between the bull gears to power a rockshaft at the rear of the transmission cover to operate the 3 pt lift arms. (all of cylinder was out of sight, only the hoses connecting to the cover were visible. Used a standard M type hydraulic push-pull rod to operate system.

Could check the British IHCs. Seem to remember some posts about B450, B275, etc. having 3 pt hitchs mid 50s while American made 400 and 450s had 2 pts.. English Ferguson patent expired 3-4 years before the American patent so IHC and other could use it without license fee in British made tractors. Couple of the 3pt rigs have shown up in American tractor shows, they supposedly were sold in Canada before being brought into US later. RN

Wayne's got it. First ever Fast Hitch was on the Super C in 1953. Sometimes referred to as "Category 1" Fast Hitch.
The first Category 2 Fast Hitch was indeed on the 300 and 400, but it wasn't the first fast hitch.

Have to disagree with Armand; the Super C was the first Farmall to have 2-point in late '52 or '53. The "dancing tractor" shows at county fairs featured the SC while introducing the Fast Hitch concept.

First Farmalls to have 2pt. (fast hitch) are the 300/400 Farmall about 1954 and continued through 706/806 models (early production) than later 707/806 and models after had 3pt. hitches. I think in later '50's some utilty models could have 3pt. option. Not sure. Maybe somebody can provide exact dates. It might be possible to put 2pt hitch from 450 Farmall on M but again not sure. The transmission case on an M does not have the bolt holes for the 400, 450, 560 Fast Hitch assemblies to bolt to. Only the SMTA other than what is listed above had the extra holes for the Fast Hitch.

That is very interisting. Thank you. So looking at the newer years were they all 2 points?

I'm so darned old that I can remember when everyone laughed and snickered at those Fords and Furgeisons with that flimsy, silly little three point hitch.

Then, implements started getting heavier and the patient laws started having some teeth. Enter the 2-point by IH.

It could only go so far tho because of it's weight limitation and FINALLY after the wars were all over, done with and settled, IH could put on a decent 3-point hitch. :>)

Mike: Prior to 1952 there were no 3 point or 2 point hitches on Farmall tractors. There are after market 3 point hitches that have been built since for those tractors.
