Look at the front bolster casting if its a true stage II it will have cast holes in them, like the SMTA, 300, 400 etc... other areas to look at are if the bell housing has a cast indent on the left side. that would have been a place for the hydro line to rest. there shold be no signs of a belly pump, no holes for the out lets for the pump if its a stage II

If the starter uses 3 bolts to mount it and is located on left side of tractor center line its a stage 2. If starter uses 2 bolts to mount and is located to right of tractor center line its a stage 1.

Remember that the Stage 2 seat will fit on Stage 1. A true Stage 2 will have a live hydraulic pump in front of the distributer and a hydraulic reservoir under the gas tank.

Relax. Then, re-read what D Slater said. Count the number of bolts holding your starter to your tractor. As D Slater stated: 2 bolts = stage 1; 3 bolts = stage 2.

If the battery in under the seat then it is a stage 2. Stage one has battery under the fuel tank
