I forgot to mention you have to refer back to chapter 4 to get the full story on painting wheels.

I hate that you can't edit posts :-)

In 150 years of IH, it shows a 12 with all red on the "start" shaped hubs, shows a 14 from 38 in the field with palted "silver" front and back, so I would assume that 12s red, 14 silver. I repalced two rotten rims on my 14 with 2 from another 14. Im quite convinced the old "silver", or what was left of it, was the factory plating.

Fawteen,
You are misiterperating what is written in the book. ONE PIECE wheels (round spokes) should be all red. Cast wheels with demountable rims should have red cast centers. The demountable rims could be either red or plated (silver).

In case you guys don't know it, I'm one of the authors (Todd Markle).

No one else has answered, but I'm a thinkin IH RED was original, but I'm sure someone else can guarentee their answer is correct. I have seen about every combination of silver and red, but I reasonably sure it is supposed to be red.
