My hydraulic oil for my loader is contaminated with water. I have new oil to replace it with but I would like to put a spin on filter in the return line. Which of the 2 lines coming back from the pump is the return??? top or bottom?? Has anyone ever done this before??? Anyone have any advice or comments??

The big line is the suction, the little pressure.
There needs to be substantial flow rate (maybe 5 times the pump volume) to assure low (or no)restriction in the suction line. Getting the air out is a hassle, as is making it look neat. I don't think there is much advantage in the filter. Heating the oil (some have used a turkey fryer outside the home) to drive out the moisture. Volatile oil is a hazzard when heated, be careful and attentive. JimN
