I"m wondering if the belly pump dipstick is the same for both the H and M.

I'm looking to buy one. I contacted the seller (after I posted my question here) of one listed on ebay. He said that the one he is selling came from an H. He tried it on an M and said it worked there, too.

i did a lil diggin at the caase i-h site, the m and h both use the same dipsticks in the belly pump, part number 15158ex. the pump resevoirs are different, the m uses 5027ee, the h uses 5014 eb. so yup, the dipsticks are the same, and nope the pumps are different.

According to the I&T shop manual, it shows they both use the same unit, so I believe they have the same size reservoir.

You should be able to use the same dip-stick.

The H and the M DO NOT use the same pump, they will not interchange, so I really doubt that the dipsticks will interchange.

...Ok, then how come I&T (page 82, paragraphs 513-519) not only shows the same units, but list each diagram as H AND M? And has the same part numbers?

Unless your thinking of a live pump system, which has no belly pump, just the tank, which couldn't use the same dipstick?

Guess I'm out of this one, 'cause now I'M confused

The H and M pumps are not the same. They do have the same configuration and may or may not share a few parts. Due to the similarity they can show the same diagrams for both pumps. The diagrams do not show part numbers, merely 1,2,3 etc to identify the parts. About anywhere on an H or M, a single diagram can be used to show parts. The tractors are very similar, and differ mainly in size, but since the M is bigger, most of the parts are larger too. The I&T manual is a good supplement to the IH manuals, but is designed for experienced mechanics, thus it does not go into a lot of detail.

The pumps are almost identical. They are different sizes but they disassemble and reassemble the same.

But, then, I like I&T manuals. You do have to read them. It will say something like "M Belly pump, H similar". they are well written but you have to read all the words and have some mechanical ability.

The first mistake you made was in buying that I&T manual. Those manuals are OK to use as a reference, but don't take them as gospel.
