Putting the head gasket back on my cub 1947. Have heard talk about spraying the gasket with silver paint and then applying to prevent leaks. I cleaned the head and block off and would hate to get her back together to only have a leak. Any trick you all have to putting it back would be a help. Also where is a good place to purchase the gasket kit from on line. Thenks

Got the last one from NAPA for about $7. Worked for me. Have you chased the threads? A larger prob might be the bolts and threads if previously stretched, that block won't take much over-torque. I use aviation gasket sealer on the wet studs and around the water jacket openings, my experience.

Just did my 49 Cub a month ago and after research on it i decided not to put anything on i left it dry...I did use thread sealer on the bolts beacuse some of them go into the water jacket. The most important thing is that the head is not warped. There is not one right answer to what to do with the head gasket coat it not coat i had luck with doing nothing but its up to you, CNKS said 10 diffrent replys you going to find on this lol

i like the copper coat gasket sealer on the head gaskets also, works good, permatex sells it as hi-tack aerosol copper gasket sealer. any auto parts store will have it.

Get the gasket from Case-IH, or look at www.cngco.com, Carter and Gruewald, a Case-IH dealer, don't know if you can do it online, but a simple phone call will bring it to you in 3-4 days -- they are very efficient. As to sealers, take you pick. I use copper coat. You will probably get 5 more different answers, all sworn to by the applier as being the infallible very best.
