Is it normal for the governor to respond slowly? When I start it up it seems to rev up quite high before it shuts down. All the linkage is free with not too much slop. I am used to the B and C , maybe this is normal on an F12.

Never fixed one of these, but I agree that it was a very responsive governor, and certainly should control the speed immediately. Drove one for 12 or 15 years.

No. It shouldn't. I have always felt that the F-12 governors were the most reponsive of all the tractors I have had the pleasure of driving. Either it is gummed up in the tower or there are balls missing/worn out in the housing---pull the side cover off and check it out before it runs away on you.

I had it all apart when I rebuilt the engine and remember replacing 2 small bearings in the tower. The old spring was bad & I got another assembly on E Bay. Is there an adjustment procedure I am missing? The thrust bearing was ok.
