I was thinking about an farmall M as I can do alot more with it than a W-6 i have,
I think alot of M's had 3 point on them and this 6 is useless for anything other than a plow or a pull mower, im tired if trying to think of stuff that will work on this ^ when there really isnt anything thatll work on it as it missing a 3 point or even a 2 point really limits it alot,
If anyonme out there wants to trade an M for a W-6 and they like W-6's?
then by all means get ahold of me and we'll trade up , yours for mine and youll be happy and so will I too
kirk,

Kirk,
What it comes down to is what "you" really want. The W6 I bought a few years ago served its previous owner well. He had it for over 40 years and used it on his turnip farm. I saw it, I liked it, I bought it. I have spent money on it, some might say too much money, but I like it and it now serves me well. I plow with it, rake hay with it, pull wagons, power elevators and just drive it to shows.
Decide what you want, what makes you happy, and go for and don't look back.

Paul

If youll arrange the shipping, I have a nice old M that Ill be more than glad to trade even. Ill even throw in the 3 point hitch on it! Recent overhaul, tranny quiet as a mouse, tires so so but hold air. Youll have to havethe gas tank boiled out good as one of my oldest sons friends decided to put some grass in the tank. His Dadday tore his butt up, but he did pay for what I had did to it, but there still is some grass in there. Seems nobody around here will boil one out anymore.

Here is a used one over in Montana for only $30K. Ten of that has got to be for the loader. :>)

I believe the one I posted my brother paid $38,000 for with 6500 hours, new tires, new paint, interior like new - I think the dealer allowed him $8500 for the 1256 with F235 loader on it so figure $29,500 to boot. The loader was another $12,000 for the JD 740 Classic, brand new and installed at JD dealer.

I love that power shift! And controls where they are easy to get to... and no more getting stuck!

I have seen a few loaders and belley mowers on W-6"s. I"m not sure why you"d want a 3pt- yeah they are nice for a grader blade and putting load on 3pt disk. I guess it depends on what you are doing with the tractor. I prefer the pull type implements myself. They seem to be much easier to hook up. Plus that W-6 is easy to get on and off. I"ve slipped a few times getting on my H with muddy boots!

Another pro is that you can add live hydraulics off the front of the engine easily(via the front engine hand crank hole- you don"t have to spend the big bucks on the distributor mounted pump.

Hi, Kirk:
I believe you have been talking off and on for at least a year about not being sure you wanted that W-6. You and it have never bonded. Based upon your concerns, you probably ought to go on and get rid of it and find something you really like.
M seats are not bad for what they are. If you want to try a rough riding seat, try a Super A seat which is mounted on those two leaf style "buggy springs". Whooo-eee! Bounce around a field on one of them for a few hours and you'll have back trouble for sure. Not so with an H or M seat.
Best of luck finding what you want.

I have both an M and a W 6 and at the risk of getting shot, I would have to say I prefer the W6 overall, but both have their merits. I also have an 8100 JD which is awfully close to that 4450 in this thread and will agree that it is a big step up (and it needs to be).

You might want to look around for a 560. It would have the 2 point on it but it has good hydraulics and live PTO. Plus it has more creature comforts than an M or SM. Another step up would be for a 706.

Hi randy its kirk,
you by far made the most sence teling me what to get nd what to stay away from, that makes total sense what you were saying earlier randy about the 706 or a 560,
their both good ttractors and your not dealing with something older that you have to scrounge parts for like an M or a W-6,
I like both of them alot and ill be looking for one or the other ok, thanks alot randy,

hi randy its kirk,
I didnt think of that,
but I think your righ on that thing,
I wasa thinkingnabout that too and down the road you'll want to have those things on a tractor and you notice them alot more if your using it and driving it, i could never stand the steel seat on thse older tractors as they are soo hard after while mannn O man what a farse,
Ill look for a 560 or a 706 too thanks alot randy ok,
Kirk,

You got to post your phone number.

I think I can get a 5488 I'd trade to you even up. It might be 1/16 scale, but fuel economy is phenomenal.

M's don't have 3 point either, unless you put an after market 3 point on it.
